The Remedy Is Growing Harder To Obtain

The year is at its end. The time has arrived for the End of Year Movie List. My movie list, that is. In other words this will be a product based entirely on fact. There is not an opinion to be read here at all. Fact after fact only, and that's a fact in and of itself.

Top Movies of 2010:
1) Inception
2) Shutter Island
3) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
4) Let Me In
5) HP: Deathly Hallows Pt. 1

Movies that I want to see that could upset this present balance of rank are: The Social Network, Black Swan and Blue Valentine. There are other movies that have been released this year that I will undoubtedly see at some point in time, but they are simply too far gone to take note of (Toy Story 3, I'm looking at you, mwahahahahahaha.)

Also, this year was the year of addition to my 5 Star Rank Films. You think I'm joking, but I really am being quite serious. Movies are very Serious Business.
In Bruges, Pan's Labyrinth. These are the two newest 5 Star movies. Well done, haha.

Also, my love for Leo has not waned this year with his films taking spots 1 and 2 on my list. I just really, really, really do like him lots.
Also, Leo 2006 vs Leo 2010? (The Departed + Blood Diamond vs Inception + Shutter Island)

Food for thought: What if Inception IS Shutter Island? The thought is simply irresistible, infectious - akin to a parasite, haha.

Also, Andy, thank you. For unkowingly introducing me to The Veils, my Band of The Year (a title I made up just then, I bet you couldn't tell!)

Enjoy the start of 2011, because Merlin knows it'll be all downhill from there :)

Damn The Dark, Damn The Light

One could claim boredom. One does claim boredom. I'm sorry that it's you that I come to when I'm bored. I'm sure what I'm about to say isn't very interesting. Just, well, weird I guess. But you know I'm weird anyway, so it can't hurt, right?
Anyway, after some music work has been done, I've worked out my most played artists on iTunes, which started from scratch at the start of the year. In a particular order, here they are:

20) Eagles
19) The Killers
18) Them Crooked Vultures
17) Bob Marley
16) Bob Dylan
15) America
14) Blake Lewis
13) Pink Floyd
12) Barclay James Harvest
11) Eels
10) The Parlotones
9) The Doors
8) Van Morrison
7) The Alan Parson's Project
6) Santana
5) The Beatles
4) Dire Straits
3) Justin Timberlake
2) Maroon 5
1) Muse

And if you feel like expanding your musical horizons, some songs from these artists:

And The Image Is Reflected Back To The Other Side

Well, I guess I've been sitting here, bored out of my mind. I can only imagine that you are too. Why else would you have spared time for The Stars? Puts us all in the same boat. I'm tempted to call it 'Titanic', but we certainly don't make up a large enough crowd. 'Minute' seems a more appropriate name.

10.38pm on a Saturday night, Superstar in my ears, brightlit screen in front of me, and I can't think of anything more interesting or more relevant to say. Maybe it's uni, driving the creative spark out of me. Maybe it's me, driving the spark out of my creativity. Either way, I only keep typing to see a fuller paragraph.

Maybe I just need to take 5 minutes to pull my socks up, suck it in, breathe out easy, and move on. Take life as is, for what it is, make the most of what comes my way. Try not to take the easy way out. Try not to avoid what I ought not. Try to do more than the minimum requirement. Learn to control myself, be more patient, less quick to be frustrated. Think about how I'm managing to put off doing any of that just by way of writing at The Stars for the first time in nearly two months. Like a diet, I'll start my plan on Monday.

In another breath, I ought to say semester one ended 3/4 happy. I hope semester two ends 5/5 happy. Or at least 5/5 happy enough.

You know what I like? Sunshine.

And My Words Will Be Here When I'm Gone

Well, it's certainly been a while since this place has seen the cobwebs brushed and dustmites feather-dusted. There's no real point to this entry other than a slight update in my life. Which more than likely if you know me, you already know anyway. Except for you, Rennie, because I said so. But this is life.

Uni semester one has ended, can't yet say whether it was a on a good note or a bad one, but I'm hoping for the former.

Since the holidays have ended I have been keeping busy, between bits of driving to and from just one motorway exit away, and kissing fences. With the car. But tis all fun and games, right? Right? Anyhow, helping to repair the damage tomorrow, hopefully with decent weather. Get your fingers crossed for me if you read this in time! Cheers, haha

In case I'm really lazy and slow again, I'll just say so now - going on what should be an awesome 3 day holiday in about two weeks time, with a bunch of good friends. Somewhere an hour away from home. Or something like that :)

I've been watching the World Cup of football as some would call it (others say soccer, but some things cannot be helped) and it sure has had its entertaining moments, none that made me happier than seeing Italy go down in the group stages! Woot! And little old NZ stood up to Italy and managed to surprisingly come out of the World Cup undefeated, without a win, sure, but undefeated none the less. Portugal tonight take on Brazil in what should be a very good game to watch, looking forward to that one.

Anyway, thats about all for my busy and mighty boring life. I hope you can forgive me for the 1 min 32 seconds that I wasted of your time while you read the entry. Goodnight, and Good Forgiveness

Regress Into A Dream

Drifting through my mind
Existing in a dream
I want you to see
Who you are to me

The dawn of another day
Brings new life to memories
Gives them their breath
That makes me fall to my knees

I cannot forget
What I never did
The chance I never took
The page that closed the book

My mind is littered
Broken and shattered
My mistakes gave me
A soul that's been battered

I want to turn around
Take the chance for a change
Make a difference to me
So I don't live in this misery
To bring back my bliss
Because ignorance is better than this

And I've lived in pain so long
My heart just doesn't belong
Close to yours so warm
You don't need to suffer this storm

Don't want you to suffer at all

I Shiver, Shake, Shudder and Make My Mistakes

What a month of activity it has been. A month of glorious highs and shallow lows. Last Sunday being the worst I've felt, although I did have a sore throat somewhere in this month too. Hmm. One wishes not to dwell on sore throatiness.

To make it easier for the both of us, a breakdown of whats happened since my last entry (stuff I can remember anyhow):

  1. I am no longer of the single variety (wheeeeeee! haha)
  2. I have completed 4 assignments, 2 of which were due in the last 3 days, and 1 thats due tomorrow by 5pm!
  3. My cellphone has frozen on occasion. Hate getting the cold shoulder from it.

At 4, I realised I am actually terrible at lists. I have no idea what to say in other things that have happened. No offense intended if you were part of it, haha.
Well, so far uni has been an interesting and vastly different experience compared to school. It also has its own high and low points, cost of transport being a major low point, cost of textbooks being another. I'll learn to survive regardless, even if it kills me.

I'm not sure if I've started listening to new music recently, but I have been enjoying Them Crooked Vultures a lot (No One Loves Me & Neither Do I, Caligulove, Dead End Friends), a few songs by The Killers (On Top, Midnight), The Veils (Jesus For The Jugular) and I also saw a song on a TV Music channel that I actually liked! OMG! Twas a song by White Rabbits (Percussion Gun). Will look into their music soon.

Anyway, obligatory monthly post outta the way, I hope I can afford more common and interesting posts than this in future

The Chaos That Controlled My Mind

Theres been a fair bit of activity going on in and around my life since that last entry I made.

I made it to my friends birthday party waltz, mistakes were made, make no doubt about that, haha, but the focus was not on us, so I'm not too worried. If people saw the mistakes made, shame on them. They should be blind to such things, haha.

Was also part of a pretty damn awesome trip to Waihi for a few days. I really enjoyed it. The food, the drink (despite some of it going down the drain), but most of all the people and the created atmosphere. It was really good.

Uni has managed to creep up on me pretty well. I'm hopefully going in to the city twice this week, to be looking at some orientation stuff. Can't believe that next week is the start of it all. The beginnning of the rest of our lives. Then again, I suppose each passing second is the beginning of the rest of our lives, and each milli and microsecond too. But I think it's best not to get into that. If you're confused about what time actually is, feel free to peruse my archives for my take on time. February '09, It's Only Natural, is where its at.

With Uni starting, people moving away has also occurred. A number of friends are moving into Uni Halls and apartments closer to their University of study. So recent times have been filled with fairwells, at least for now. They'll soon be seen again, so I have not to worry.

We happen to have a new kitten in the household too. Primer by name, (possibly Prima by spelling) and he has a serious teething and scratching problem. I am however enjoying the use of a spray bottle to teach him right from wrong.

So, things to do for the next wee while: SEE SHUTTER ISLAND!!! I'm slightly biased, but I think it's gonna be a really good movie. Comes out in cinemas near you on Thursday 25th of February, so long as you're local.
Seeing Valentines Day the movie tonight. You know this is for you. Yep you, not you, but you. Hoping its Not Another Chick Flick. We'll see, haha.
Gotta keep my head up for Uni, keep on going and pull through whatever they try to throw at me.

With that all said, I hope there will be more regular posts made, and more interesting ones too. But I can't guarantee anything. If you actually still read this, congratulations. You're one of very very few. Haha, and on that happy, exclusive note, I take my leave.

By The Way, Your Hands Were Shaking

Welcome to the new year, but far more importantly, the one week belated First Anniversery Post!
It's been a short, sporadic year of posts. They only happen when they choose to, but at least they've been able to make an appearance at least once a month so far.

With 2010 comes a host of new situations that I'm currently in, and will be in soon. I'm currently learning a waltz for a friends birthday celebration, which isn't going too badly. I've got all the moves down now, so its just a matter of getting them down in time, I think, but we're just about there.

I'm also in the process of organising all my uni and student loan stuff. It's all a little bit difficult though. But I'm working through it, and it should be a good result, so in that sense I'm happy.
I've recently started working. That's right. Working. Selling uniforms and stationery at Otahuhu College. It hasn't been too life threatening yet, so I'm going back for week two this week, and I'll see how that goes. I'm actually a little disappointed that I'm working though. It's almost like admission of growing up, and having to take responsibility for myself. And thats just sad.

In other news, I haven't been reading anything yet this year. Not really anyway. I haven't seen too many movies, but I did see the great (in my opinion, obviously) Pan's Labyrinth, and the visually stunning Avatar.
I have however been listening to a fair amount of new music, and have added Van Morrison, Kansas, The Alan Parsons Project, Eels, Them Crooked Vultures and 10cc albums along with a lot of individual artist/songs. Also been listening to The Fratellis 'Costello Music' which was left on the iPod i purchased (woo!). Still going through the other stuff that was left on it.

With that on your minds, till next time.
